Restoring a five-century-old mill inevitably raises the question: what environmental impact do we leave behind? Here are our concrete commitments.

Energy

Pool heated 100 % by thermal solar panels (90 m² on the roof)
Nordic bath heated by local wood fire from responsibly managed forestry
Geothermal heat pump for the accommodations
100 % renewable electricity (Enercoop contract)

Water

Rainwater harvesting: 30 m³ of buried tanks
Reed-bed filtration of grey water for watering the grounds
Closed-loop aquaponic greenhouse (90 % water saving vs conventional market gardening)

Materials

Schist stone original to the building
Oak wood from Vosges forests (within 50 km)
Wood-fibre insulation and lime-hemp
Lime-based paints with no VOCs

Food

The aquaponic greenhouse produces vegetables, herbs and fish (trout) consumed on site for breakfasts and events. The rest is sourced from Vosges producers within 30 km.

Charging stations for electric vehicles (2 × 22 kW stations)
Free electric bike loan for guests
